Nuttacon's Magical Luxurious Kind of Hard Minecraft World

Overview

Installation

Java

Download and install Java 17.0.6 from here

Minecraft

Download and install Minecraft from here. At some point in this process you need to create a Microsoft account - either from scratch, or by converting an old Mojang account if you had one.

Forge and Launcher

You need one of the various launchers to manage the appropriate Forge installation and other settings. CurseForge was popular, but I personally hate it because it's become bloated and forces you to install their dumb application overlay software (Overwolf). I recommend this lightweight launcher called MultiMC.

In MultiMC you just need to create a new instance, edit the instance and set the Minecraft version to 1.19.2 and Forge to 43.2.8 (there's an Install Forge button on the right where you grab it from). And finally the Settings button at the top of the main MultiMC windows has a Java setting to point to your Java 17 location.

Mods

If using MultiMC, simply click the "Minecraft Folder" button, open the mods folder, and drag and drop the JAR files from the ZIP file provided in the link at the bottom of this page.

Texture Pack (Optional)

Only psycopaths play Minecraft with the vanilla textures. My go-to is PureBDCraft. Make sure to click the MC1.19.2 version link. Use the slider to select which texture resolution you want. I would not recommend 256x unless you are on top of your video processing game. 128x seems to run well enough on my mid-range Nvidia card. 64x is probably a good choice if you want to play it even safer than that with the framerates.

You don't need to unzip this, and can drop the entire ZIP file into the /resourcepacks folder. In Minecraft, click: Options... > Resource Packs... > Open Resource Folder.

Mod Spotlight

My main goal with this modpack was to include the excellent mods we know and used previously, while also including some new things we may be unfamiliar with to provide some new experiences. Additionally, I went out of my way to find some more challenging mods that can make our mid-game a little scarier, and end-game a little less boring. If you have any concerns about not wanting to play on a more challenging server, I can assure you that the veterans among us will most likely make that concern disappear pretty quickly as we stand up a base with all kinds of crazy overpowered tech, so not much to worry about there!

Tech and Magic

This is the portion of the modpack that will be most familiar to those that have played with me before. Largely dictated by the various tech mods direwolf20 has included in his kitchen sink packs, this more or less includes the usual tried-and-true mods for power and magic-based advancements. Immersive Engineering, Mekanism, Applied Energistics 2, and RFTools are some of the mainstays.

Magic mods Botania and Ars Nouveau are included once again (with a few Ars Nouveau add-ons that seem new-ish).

New additions are Ad Astra - a space-faring mod, and Extreme Reactors (because blowing up our base with normal reactors wasn't enough). Occultism and Spirit are new magic themed mods.

Notable omissions are Tinkers' Construct (the charred-brick smelting tanks) and Actually Additions (the OG mining drills, and crafting-by-lasers) which unfortunately do not have 1.19.2 support at the moment. Immersive Engineering and other included mods do have methods for smelting, though. Blood Magic and Astral Sorcery - two old magic mods - unfortunately do not have 1.19.2 support.

Biomes and Dimensions

Geolosys is the mod I was most unsure of whether to include. It completely revamps the way ores are spawned - rather than appearing randomly in the ground, ores are spawned in huge motherloads that must be hunted down using surface samples and prospecting picks. Anyone that played SevTech is probably familiar with this one. Early game becomes a bit more difficult, but the reward for finding the motherlodes feels pretty good. Ultimately, I opted to keep this as I want to try to create a more challenging server with something a little bit different than the norm.

Terralith is an overworld mod generator that creates some amazing biomes. I didn't include any other overworld biome mods, really, because this one alone seems to do the job.

The YUNG's series of mods is a new set that claims to vastly improve nether forts, strongholds, ocean monuments, and more! Unusual End and Infernal Expansion improve The End and The Nether dimensions.

Food and Farming

The main thing to say here is I ditched the classic Pam's Harvestcraft pack in favor of some smaller, less-bloated mods. These include Croptopia, Farmer's Delight, and a few more.

The Nutritional Balance mod makes eating a bit more interesting as it gives bonuses for eating a variety of foods.

Monsters and Creatures

Our tech mods tend to make us too powerful, so I wanted to try to find some mods to make monsters a bit more formidable. Unfortunately the Hunting Dimension mod doesn't have 1.19.2 support, but there are other mods such as Whisperwoods, Infernal Mobs, and The Conjurer which claim to provide some beefy enemies.

Alex's Mobs has raccoons that steal things from your chests, and seagulls that take your food. So please enjoy that!

Issues

As mentioned in the server rules section, RFTools dimensions can be buggy and cause server issues so use with caution, and ask for a server backup before creating a new dimension.
